I didn't watch it but i certainly know of an outstanding teacher. A teacher called Pat at my son's nursery in wheelock. She has such a passion and drive for teaching young children. That my son, Oliver now runs in happily every day.

I agree Andrew. Getting the press on board is vital. Sadly, once the media take a story - even if you have the best press release in the world prepared for them - you are at mercy of what makes good copy.

The truth often lies in what is omitted - not just what is printed. For example the main news coverage did not mention that the college had already successfully organised 2 previous staff events in Marbella - and both without complaint.

As I see it this proves the power of the press. When the media took hold of the story and ran with it in a negative fashion the result was the trip had to be cancelled.

As a Year 6 teacher in the middle of SATs week I find myself apologising to my class frequently - after all what do the SATs mean to them in 'real' terms - they will never appear on their CV, they won't help them to secure a place at university so why should they care? bother? or get stressed?

maybe it's because their parents offer them rewards if they do well???

maybe its because the system forces them into that corner?

let the children have their childhood & let the government trust teacher assessment, or is that just far too radical?

Parents would surely get a better sense of the achievements of their child if they sat down and had a quality half hour session with the class teacher at some point during the school year rather than waiting for the brown envelope to arrive (& don;t we all learn to love the brown envelopes as we get older!!)

I joined up because as a single parent of 4 I needed a job that wouldn't cost me a large chunk of my salary in childcare - however it didn't take me long to realise that while there are many holidays it really isn't a strong enough motivation to doing the job.

I believe that the recruitment drive should involve more teachers who are on the front line. I love my job - yes the workload is big, yes the behaviour can cause issues, as can many other factors. But who has a job that runs smoothly all day every day??

Job satisfaction far outweighs the negatives & there are times when teachers are disillusioned or just plain fed up , but then you get a golden moment and its suddenly all better.
